Biography
Jo has accumulated a wealth of experience in a variety of administrative roles in both the Further and Higher Education environment over the past 20 years including 5 years as office Manager. Working for Colleges and Universities from 1993 her roles have ranged from School Secretary and Business Centre Administrator (Wakefield College, UK), Senior Secretary for the Executive Management Team (Bretton Hall College, UK), Learning and Teaching Student Support Manager for the Institute for Transport Studies (University of Leeds) and more recently, and prior to emigrating to Australia, Faculty Graduate School Manager for the Faculty of Medicine and Health (University of Leeds). In 2011/2012 Jo was also part of the University wide review group of managers reviewing and informing policy on a range of university wide student administrative processes which included Online Admissions, Quality Assurance, Examination and Assessment procedures and Student Support Services.

Jo’s administrative experience in the Education space ranges from being the initial point of contact for program enquiries, application processes and advising on application outcomes/decisions and feedback; scholarship applications; on program administration including progress reporting, upgrade and transfers, examinations, referrals, suspensions and appeals, authorising and monitoring student training allocations and inducting new PhD students. Higher level management duties included biannual reporting on PhD progress; information management reporting (preparation of documentation for the Research Assessment Exercise (RAE)); analysis and forecasts of student projected numbers; staff reviews and financial management and monitoring. Other responsibilities in the HE/FE space has been marketing and promoting programs and short courses, scheduling short courses, room bookings, registrations and taking payments, monitoring staff absence and sickness, booking travel and conferences for faculty staff Jo has worked in diverse discipline areas including Business, Law, Science and Mathematics, Computing, Transport Studies, Continuing Education and Medicine and Health.
Roles, responsibilities and expertise
Current Role:
On joining the Australian workforce in 2015, Jo’s current role is Administrative Officer in the UWA Business School’s External Relations team, Jo provides a high level of administrative support to the Director of External Relations and its Managers (Development/Events; Marketing and Communications, Internationalisation, MBA Careers and Alumni Engagement). Key responsibilities include the preparation of correspondence with external sponsors and donors, ensuring essential data is captured within the Community Engagement TRIM files and REX systems, assisting in the annual reports to sponsors, diary management, organising travel and accommodation, minute taking for both internal meetings and meetings with sponsors; sponsor liaison relating to special events (5th IAEE Conference 2016). Other duties can range from researching information on overseas universities for the preparation of exchange agreements through to recording and reporting on sponsor/donor income.
