Biography
Zaza Lyons works in the Behavioural Science Unit, School of Psychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences at the University of Western Australia. She is involved in the Schools medical teaching program and has a number of research interests. Zaza jointly co-ordinates the BSU’s Mental Wellbeing in Today’s World broadening unit. She also jointly co-ordinates the Communications Skills module for the MD and DMD courses.

Zaza has research expertise in several different areas. These include medical education, particularly in the area of recruitment and attraction of medical students to a career in psychiatry. She has recently completed a major international study on stigma and the recruitment of medical students to a career in psychiatry. She is the co-ordinator of the Claassen Institute of Psychiatry for Medical Students – a week long intensive enrichment programme aimed to increase interest in psychiatry and encourage medical students to consider psychiatry as a career choice.

Other research projects include Aboriginal mental health and the development of the Here and Now Aboriginal Assessment (HANAA) screening tool to assess social and emotional well-being among Indigenous people. She also co-ordinates a study that is assessing the effectiveness of a Mindfulness program for people with an Acquired Brain Injury.
She has a number of peer-reviewed journal publications and has presented at national and international conferences.
