Biography

B.Sc. Psychology, University of Glasgow (2006-2010)
Key research
Previous research has found that people easily and reliably make social judgements such as attractiveness or trustworthiness from faces. However, this line of work tends to focus on the cues in faces themselves. My research aims to examine the influence of prior categorical knowledge and associated stereotypes on these judgements. I am also interested in the idea that different photographs of the same people can give rise to different impressions and in using face images with a wide range of variability.
My research has been funded by the ARC, ESRC, British Psychological Society, Experimental Psychological Society and Brain.

Industrial relevance
First impressions are clearly very important for a wide range of consumer industries. For example, my previous work has suggested that trustworthiness, competence and attractiveness are key judgements made by people when they first see a face.
