Biography
Jana has a degree in mathematics from University of Southampton, and obtained her MSc and PhD in applied mathematics and coastal engineering at University of Oxford. Her thesis “Solitary waves and wave groups at the shore” addressed coastal processes of runup and overtopping with a novel hybrid numerical model for wave propagation in coastal waters. She also incorporated a moving wavemaker boundary, creating a numerical model of laboratory flumes capable of complete reproduction of shallow-water experiments.
Following her PhD completion, Jana briefly stayed on as a researcher at University of Oxford. She then worked for HR Wallingford, a UK based research and consultancy engineering firm, from 2012 to 2016. She was responsible for an upgrade of the wave generation software, incorporating improved second order corrections and extending the software for generation of focused wave groups and solitary waves.
Jana joined UWA in May 2016 and works as a Research Fellow within the Centre for Offshore Foundation Systems on a collaborative project with Carnegie Clean Energy. She is investigating non-linear responses of wave energy converters including behaviour under extreme waves, and feeding these into geotechnical research designing novel economical foundations for renewable energy converters.
