Workshop purpose and scope

- Workshop description:
- The University has identified cultural competence as a critical attribute for both our staff and graduates, and absolutely vital for a globalised university striving for international excellence. Working with staff and students from different cultures is both rewarding and challenging. This workshop deepens the dialogue by challenging members of the University community to think through the various ways race and culture affects their life and professional practice. It will provide an opportunity to increase your comfort, confidence and capacity to work effectively with people from culturally diverse backgrounds.
- Intended outcomes:
- Participants will have the opportunity to:
- Unpack their own unique racial story, linking it to the local, national and global context
- Understand the concept of race privilege, and how to examine its influence
- Use the insights gained to develop a more meaningful and targeted response around race and culture in a University context
- Key activities:
- Presentation, group discussion and opportunities to raise questions, interactive activities, case studies.
