Alumni and Friends Weekend

Alumni Weekend

The Alumni and Friends Weekend presented a unique opportunity to celebrate UWA's landmark 100 years through a diverse program of activities, events and reunions.

Thank you to the many UWA alumni who joined us on campus for the Alumni Weekend as part of our centenary celebrations. The spectacular LUMINOUSnight projection, which kicked off the UWA Alumni Weekend, drew crowds of more than 35,000 people and transformed UWA into a panoramic spectacle of light and sound like we have never seen it before. Following the free one-night pageant of art and culture, we opened our doors to our wonderful alumni and welcomed them back on campus for faculty reunions, lectures by renowned academics, cultural programs, sporting activities, and campus tours.

The great turnout of our alumni and their beaming faces said much about the success of our events as they gathered to attend lectures by Laureate Professor Barry Marshall AC CitWA, Winthrop Professor Peter Quinn, Director of the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research (ICRAR) and Winthrop Professor Carlos Duarte, Director of the UWA Oceans Institute.

They also heard the inspirational and remarkable story by Mount Everest climber and UWA graduate Patrick Hollingworth, they reveled in literary readings and discussions, met their fellow classmates over tea parties, enjoyed the campus tours and learnt about the excellent research advances carried out at the University. Among the many events attended were also launches of Shaun Tan’s Sundial, Seeking Wisdom: a Centenary History of The University of Western Australia, as well as the launch of the UWA Centenary plant – Hakea laurina.
