You are invited to celebrate our University history

  • Do you have an interest in the history of UWA?
  • Do you love wandering through the grounds or watching Festival films under the stars?
  • Were you a student at UWA?
  • Did you teach or work on campus?

If you can answer yes to any of the above you are invited to join in the activities of the UWA Historical Society. Your support is always welcome, so download our donation form or membership form today (see sidebar).

Projects currently underway include commemoration of the Centenary of Armistice Day. UWA was the only University in WA at the time of the Great War 1914-18. Possible commemorative activities include establishing a pavement memorial, finding relatives of those who served, a musical event, updating and relocating the Honour Board and a Photographic Exhibition.

Other projects include the recommencement of Campus Walks, continuation of the Oral History Program and identifying historical artefacts which illustrate the UWA history.

If you have an interest in the UWA Historical Society or would like to assist with one of its projects, contact Fran Pesich on 0417 178 275 or email uwahs@uwa.edu.au.

Oral History Portal – An ongoing collection

The UWA Historical Society’s Oral History collection started as a project with four oral histories funded from Society resources, and is has been expanded into an ongoing program. Support has been received from every Faculty on campus, the Guild, Convocation and through private donations (including through UWATCH). This initiative represents a re-activation of a 1980s program which, having been inactive for 20 years, is making up for two decades of lost opportunities to record the stories of UWA people during an era of great change. Our online portal now contains over 200 voices from UWA’s first century, hosted online by the UWA Faculty of Arts, State Library of WA, and National Library of Australia.
